About this Text

Renart le Bestourné (Reynard Transformed) is a satirical version of the Roman de Renart (Reynard the Fox) written around 1260-1269 by Rutebeuf, a French poet. While it does not tell any of the Reynard stories, it does use several of the Reynard characters in its criticism of the political and religious leaders of the time. The poem is 162 lines in a dialect of Old French.
