Description

A fully illustrated Latin bestiary is on folio 1r-22v. Full color illustrations in green, red, brown and blue. The illustrations end after folio 18v.

It is a second family bestiary; the animals described and their order of appearance are similar to other second family bestiaries. Many of the illustration resemble (in content, not necessarily in style) the illustrations in Bibliothèque Nationale de France, lat. 3630.

The animal chapters are arranged by the kind of animal:

  • Quadrupeds (mostly mammals, plus ant): 38 (folio 1r-9v)
  • Birds: 33 (folio 10r-17v)
  • Serpents (reptiles): 11 (folio 17v-19r)
  • Fish: 5 (19v-20r)

The animal chapters are followed by several chapters on trees and plants. The De natura [humana] et eius circonstantiis (On [human] nature and its circumstances) is on folio 22v-26r. On folio 27v there is faint musical notation, unrelated to the rest of the manuscript.
