Representações do Pavão no Livro das Aves de Brasília
Brasilia: Universidade de Brasília, 2018
This research aims to analyze the peacock's imagery and textual representations in the Book of Birds of Brasilia (MS.02 OBR/BCE/UNB). It is a bestiary, literary genre of the Middle Ages that interprets by means of allegories and metaphors the birds, attributing to them symbolic meanings. We chose the peacock for the analysis of the text and the corresponding miniature because it is the only bird with the complete treatise among the fragments of the manuscript. The study was divided into three parts. To better situate the manuscript of Brasilia in the medieval context, we compare its text and image with other bestiaries of the same tradition, produced in the XII-XIII centuries. The study of the Book of Birds of Brasilia, its content, codicological aspects and its comparison with other similar manuscripts, makes it possible to analyze the maintenance of medieval thought during the temporal cut (XII and XIV) and the changes that the medieval manuscripts acquire as copies. The research itself also contributes to the production of bibliography on a manuscript still little known. - [Abstract]
