Beast

Exposita

Latin name: Exposita
Category: Fish

A fish with very large teeth

General Attributes

The exposita bestia is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is the result of a misunderstanding by Thomas of Cantimpré of a passage from Pliny the Elder where he describes a beast that was washed up ("exposed") on the sea shore. Thomas seems to have taken exposita to be the name of the animal. The beast is said to have 120 very large teeth, with a body 40 feet long.
