Description
The Miroir de l'humaine salvation is a French translation of the Speculum Humanae Salvationis, a theological text on the Christian story of the salvation of humanity by Christ. Its interest here is not so much for the text, but for the illustrations of the elephant, whale, ostrich, thamur and other animals found in most of the manuscripts containing this text.
The illustrations are very fine full color paintings, two per page, at the top of each page column. Two of the usual images are missing: Solomon on his throne surrounded by lions; the ostrich using the thamur worm to free its chick.
Alternate shelfmark: Supplément français 10.
