Description
The Roman de Renart le Contrefait version of the French Roman de Renart (Reynard the Fox) stories. This is the second redaction of the text, with 41,150 verses. Space was left for illustrations but none were completed.
There are several digressions from the Renart story in the text, including a multipage one featuring a retelling of the legend of Alexander the Great.
This is the Le Renart le Contrefait manuscript designated B² by Raynaud and Lemaître.
The BnF catalogue lists this manuscript as Volume 2 of Français 369-370. Volume 1 (Bibliothèque Nationale de France - fr. 369) is a modern handwritten copy of the Roman de Renart le Contrefait manuscript at Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Cod. 2562 (B¹).
