Description
This is the version of the Reynard the Fox cycle known as Renart le Nouvel, written by Jacquemart Gielée (12th century). Some pages have musical notation accompanying the French verse. There are 45 full color framed illustrations, column-width, some with gold backgrounds; there is also one marginal illustration.
In the text various characters sing, and the manuscript has musical notation on several pages (e.g folio 50r-53r).
There is a table at the start of the manuscript, added at a later date, listing the chapters and their content. Folios 44 to 45 as well as another leaf inserted after folio 56 are also later additions to the manuscript.
This is the Renart le Nouvel manuscript designated C.
