From April 27 to May 1, 1988, a colloquium on Vincent of Beauvais was held in Montreal, organized by the Vincent of Beauvais Workshop of the A.R.Te.M. in Nancy and by the Institute of Medieval Studies of the University of Montreal. The idea for this meeting was launched by the editors of this collection and by the other members of the scientific committee: Jacqueline Hamesse of the Catholic University of Louvain and J. B. Voorbij of the University of Groningen. However, this colloquium was primarily justified by the proliferation of research on Vincent of Beauvais over the past decade. The work, conducted in various countries by researchers often geographically distant, revealed several points of convergence that we wished to explore during this meeting. This is why the colloquium set itself the clearly defined objective of studying the history of the composition of Vincent of Beauvais's works, the influence of the Dominican, Cistercian, and courtly circles that supported the compiler's work, and the dissemination of his works in both Latin and vernacular languages, from the mid-12th century to the very end of the Middle Ages. - [Authors]
