A pantera: dos bestiários ao Orto do Esposo
Universidade de Lisboa, Incipit 12, 2023, page 136-150
This paper will present part of my ongoing PhD research concerning the representation of the figure of the panther in selected medieval works. It is centered around a thirteenth-century bestiary and the Portuguese work Orto do Esposo, written in the late-fourteenth century or early fifteenth century. Bartholomew the Englishman’s work, De proprietatibus rerum, written in 1240 AD, works as a mediator between the information present in the bestiaries and that of Orto do Esposo. The relationship between the two will be explored and clarified in subsequent work, namely through the transcription and translation of passages from a copy of De proprietatibus rerum, from the Alcobaça Monastery (Alc. 383) [Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, ALC. 383]. - [Abstract]
