Le bestiaire retrouvé
Etudes Francaises, Volume 10, number 3, 1974, page 283-307
Gradually, each person's mythological bestiary blends with one form of civilization or another, becoming richer or poorer through contact with a cultural environment (on this subject, it would take a very clever person indeed to say exactly where, when, how, and why one effect occurs rather than another). With their imagination awakened, children readily embrace stories of pink lions wearing bowler hats, Kipling's tales or the adventures of Puss in Boots told to them while leafing through their favorite books, the cartoons they watch on television, the tigers and bunnies in advertisements, a Walt Disney film or a documentary, a visit to the zoo, La Fontaine's fables, and the lessons in natural history taught at school. - [Author]
