La ripresa degli autori tardoantichi nell'"Ecbasis captivi" tra parodia, citazione, reminiscenza
Filologia mediolatina: rivista della Fondazione Ezio Franceschini, Number 21, 2014, page 141-166
The core of the essay, however, is dedicated to identifying and interpreting the numerous quotations from late antique authors present in the text, also attempting, where possible, to glean information from them about the reading of those texts in the context in which the Ecbasis was composed. The composition was achieved through what the author calls "Mosaikstil," rather than a fully-fledged centonary technique (she recalls in this regard the use of quotation for comic purposes recommended by Quintilian and the theoretical formulation of the centonary technique in Ausonius's Cento nuptialis); the skillfully varied use of intertextuality achieves a thematic-conceptual reversal with a parodic undertone. The author recalls several studies on quotation in the Ecbasis ... and then moves on to the results of her analysis, summarized as follows. General characteristics: for each author, a selection of explanatory passages is provided, along with a summary (in a footnote) of the current status quaestionis of studies on the manuscript tradition and, if identifiable, the branch of tradition from which the Ecbasis draws the quotation. - [Abstract]
