Pour une relecture de l'Ecbasis Captivi
Revue des sciences religieuses, Volume 69, Number 2, 1995, page 202-215
Since its discovery in 1838 in a Brussels manuscript by the German philologist Jacob Grimm, the Ecbasis cujusdam captivi per tropologiam has been recognized as the oldest animal epic of the Middle Ages, practically the ancestor of the Roman de Renart. Before publishing the first French translation of this work (1200 Latin verses), it is necessary to review the research concerning the place and date of its composition and the hypotheses relating to the (monastic) milieu in which it originated. - [Abstract]
