Il manoscritto Saibante-Hamilton 390, Edizione critica
Rome: Salerno Editrice, 2019
The illustrious Saibante-Hamilton Codex 390 from the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, published here in a critical edition, has attracted the interest of some of the greatest Romance philologists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. ,,, This volume brings together, for the first time, the complete critical edition of this monument of Italian Origins, accompanied by a multi-perspective study that traces the ancient and modern history of the codex, highlighting the particularities of its material structure, as well as the numerous—and sometimes neglected—literary, artistic, and historical-cultural merits that have shaped its distinctive physiognomy. The complete edition of the codex, which allows us to observe the object in its materiality and in its testimonial reality, permits, on the one hand, a full understanding of the texts that compose it, observed in the textual and linguistic stratification that characterizes them; on the other, it offers the opportunity to fully investigate the relationship between text and image that makes the manuscript a nearly unique case in the panorama of manuscript production of the first centuries of Italian literature. The introductory notes and detailed commentaries on each of the works, along with the complete analytical format (in both vernacular and Latin), complement the edition with the most up-to-date and systematic exegetical approach dedicated to the texts preserved in the manuscript. The edition, the essays, the commentaries, the linguistic notes, and the format, along with the codicological and art-historical studies, as well as the detailed investigation of the paratexts and the illustrative layout, also point to a new and effective paradigm in the study of great medieval literary manuscripts. - [Abstract]
