This marvelous image illustrates the biblical story of Jonah and the whale. At the top, the boat Jonah is in encounters a storm, and Jonah goes overboard. At the bottom, Jonah is being swallowed by the whale or is emerging; he prays to the god hand for help. Illuminated initial from a psalter; the dragon body forms the letter S.
