Description
The unillustrated Bestiaire of Guillaume le Clerc is on folios 4r-26v. This is the copy of the Bestiaire designated Q by Reinsch.
A 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 223 x l70 mm. and containing 27 folios. The principal contents are a Bestiary written in a neat, small minuscule script. There are many colored illustrations in green, red, brown and blue, while the initials are in the conventional blue-red. One blank unnumbered paper flyleaf at each end of the ms goes with the 19th century red leather binding, which is ornamented with gilt tooling, the papal crest being at the front. The spine is of brown leather. The 19th century ink foliation is at t.r.r. from 1-26. On f. 22v-26 is De natura [humana] et eius circonstantiis. Fol. 27 is blank, but shows traces of three-part music on the verso. One could imagine this had been copied with a slate pencil, and been partially erased by rubbing. It is in any case hardly visible.
