Description

The Romance of Reynard the Fox in French verse.

The contents consist of 14 articles of the French verse romances, based on a vast collection of tales from Eastern sources, mostly collected and translated in Picardy or the Paris area in the 12th and 13th centuries. According to Keith Busby, Codex and context : reading Old French verse narrative in manuscript (2002), this text belongs to the same tradition as Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, fr. 1580 and Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS. Douce 360 (part of the 'Alpha' family of manuscripts). It was probably the exemplar from which New York, Pierpont Morgan Library, MS M.932 was copied. Misbound: the first 18 folios are lacking, and 2 folios before f. 15. - [adapted from British Library catalog]

Illustrated with 13 miniatures in colours on gold grounds, with frames in blue, rose and gold (ff. 3, 6, 13, 19v, 33, 42, 53, 63, 68, 70v, 77v, 92v, 103).
