Description

The Properties of Things by Bartholomaeus Anglicus.

20 miniatures attributed to the master of Antoine de Bourgogne, including a mid-page frontiscpice (255 x 215 mm) on sheet 1 and 19 small miniatures at the beginning of each book. Ornate frame on the frontispiece, edging on 3 sides for the miniatures. Initials on a golden background below the miniatures, initials at the head of the table and below the headings, filigree initials (alternately gold filigree in black and blue watermark in red).

Only one of illustration is animal related, folio 337r, a group of beasts to mark the start of the animal chapter, perhaps a reference to the creation of the animals.

Produced for Louis of Bruges , whose coat of arms can be seen under the royal arms.
