Sources : Sunfish

Thomas of Cantimpré [circa 1200-1272 CE] (Liber de natura rerum, Fish 7.77): The sunfish [solaris piscis, "solar fish"], having its name from the fact that it likes to lie in the sun by the banks of rivers. It has a large head, a wide mouth, and a black and slippery skin, like that of an eell. The roe is very sweet and especially tender. It grows to a vastness and to a great length in its old age when it has led a long life. For it grows more slowly than other fish. - [Badke translation/paraphrase]
