Sources : Lycaon
Thomas of Cantimpré [circa 1230-1245 CE] (Liber de natura rerum, Quadrupeds 4.59): The lycaon is a beast in the East, which some place in the order of wolves. It is fringed at the neck, and varied in so many ways, that they say it lacks no color. The wolf is longer, but has shorter legs, and is different; this animal is a swift leaper; it lives by hunting; it is harmless to man. And this is to be noted in this animal, that it changes its habit according to the seasons, because in winter it is shaggy and covered with hair, but in summer it is naked. - [Badke translation/paraphrase]
