The illicinus is a serpent that lives in scarlet oak trees. Its bite corrupts the skin and emits an odor that is lethal to anyone who approaches the dead victim.

The illicinus appears only in the De animalibus of Albertus Magnus.

The scarlet oak of Europe is Quercus ilex, hence the serpent's name illicinus. The oak tree serpent has not been identified.
