The genus of hybrid animals

General Attributes

The ibrida is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is treated as an actual animal, though the text says the name refers to the group of hybrid animals, beasts composed of parts of two or more other animals, such as the mule, the offspring a a horse and an ass. Thomas of Cantimpré gives the specific example of the offspring of a wild boar and a domestic pig, which he calls the hybrida.
