A serpent born from inside a linden tree
General Attributes
The tyliatus is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a serpent (or worm) that is said to get its name because it is born inside the linden tree (tylia), where it first eats the marrow of the tree, then its wood, until the tree is weakened and falls. The serpent grows to a large size and lies in wait for cattle.
