General Attributes

The draconcopedes (literally "dragon foot") is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a serpent with the head and face of a human maiden, and the body of a dragon or snake. Thomas of Cantimpré says it may be the serpent that tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. A similar serpent found in several Asian religious traditions is the Naga.

The illustrations of the temptation of Eve in the Speculum Humanae Salvationis consistently show the serpent as a draconcopede, sometimes with unusual features.
