The sponge is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a sea fish that grows rooted on rocks. They know when someone is trying to uproot them and contract themselves to make it more difficult. They can regrow from the roots left on the rocks when they are torn away. They eat fish or shellfish or mud.
Uses Magical, Medical, Alchemical and Culinary
Sponges can be used for cleaning and for paint brushes. They are a good treatment for swelling of the eyes.
