The capito is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a small fish with a large head, from which it gets its name: capito in Latin means "having a large head". It lives in rivers where it hides under rocks.
There is another fish with a similar name, the capitones. The capito (also called capitone) is a small river fish; the capitones is a large sea fish.
