A fertile bird that lays more than twenty eggs at a time
The melancoriphus is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a small bird, but very fertile, laying more than twenty eggs, and always an odd number. It is careful with its chicks, and though it has so many to feed, at the end of summer they are found to be very fat.
