The meauce (or meance) is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a sea bird, larger than a duck, grey with a beak partly red and partly a yellow-orange color. They have short legs and grey eyes. They like corpses and especially human corpses; and when they find one they first seek out its eyes (something also said of the crow).
