A shellfish with spines
The sea-urchin's (echinus) shell is sharp with spines like chestnuts when they fall from the tree still covered. The name is taken from the hedgehog, also called echinus, which also has spines on its back.
The sea urchin is not a fish; it is a marine invertebrate. In modern taxonomy, some European urchins are in the Echinus genus in the Echinidae family.
