The pike or sea-wolf is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is said to be voracious and difficult to catch. It is cruel, willing to kill and eat its own kind, and even its own offspring. The females are impregnated by the north wind. Because of their sharp scales and fins, they can only be swallowed head first.
