The cow or bull or ox of the sea
The sea-cow (or sea-bull, sea-ox) appears in some medieval encyclopedias. Thomas of Cantimpré calls it the focha bos marinus, possibly a confusion with the seal (foca) which is called the "calf of the sea". Thomas says it has the hands of a man and the face of a calf, and is the strongest animal of its kind.
