Description

The illustrated Bestiaire of Pierre de Beauvais is on folios 2r-36r.

"At the end of the text on f. 36 the following expicit is found: 'Explicit le grant bestiaire commencé par moy Jehann Pamir a Pons Sainte Maxence et parchevé au chasteau de Bouillencourt le lundi XVIIIe jour de septembre mil iiii c lxxxv.' The first place referred to is in all probability Pont Sainte-Maxence (Oise) in the north of Ile-de-France, while the castle could be located either at Bouillancourt (Somme, arr. de Montdidier) or at Bouillancourt-en-Sery (Somme, arr. d'Abbeville)." - Medieval Latin and French Bestiaries (Chapel Hill, 1962) McCulloch, p. 62, note 51
